Spring Bank Holiday
Last Monday in May
The Spring Bank Holiday falls on the last Monday in May and is observed throughout the United Kingdom. It replaced Whit Monday (the day after Whit Sunday, seven weeks after Easter) as part of the 1971 Banking and Financial Dealings Act, which introduced fixed-date bank holidays. The holiday coincides with the school half-term break and is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year in the UK. The Spring Bank Holiday has occasionally been moved or supplemented for royal celebrations: in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee, 2012 for the Diamond Jubilee, and in 2022 it was moved to 2 June with an additional Platinum Jubilee bank holiday on 3 June.
